The Alaska Food Policy Council:

Farmers, fishers, eaters, foodies, hunters, harvesters, gardeners, entrepreneurs, families, traditional knowledge holders, business owners: all across Alaska people like you depend on and care about a healthy food system.

Food nourishes us, is sustains us, it enriches us, and it connect us. The Alaska Food Policy Council (AFPC) was founded in 2010 in recognition of the importance of working together to build a healthy food system for all Alaskans. Over the past several years, AFPC has made important strides in helping to meet this critical mission that impacts Alaskans deeply.

Thanks to the dedication and collaboration with Alaskans like you, we've been able to:

  • Distribute Community Food Security mini-grants in partnership with the Municipality of Anchorage.
  • Build the Semi-Annual AFPC Food Festival & Conference into a must-attend event that showcases the amazing work being done around our state.
  • Facilitate original research on Alaska's food system, like food economist Ken Meter's 2014 report, Building Food Security in Alaskaand 2018 update.

In the past AFPC's work has been supported by the State of Alaska. But now as with other important, State-supported projects we have to rely on other revenue sources to continue our work. In 2014, AFPC became its own 501c3 nonprofit and is driven by a committed volunteer Board of Directors with the support of one dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer.

We need your help to grow this important work. With your valued contribution to AFPC, we will:

  • ADVOCATE for policies that support sustainable, local and affordable food choices for our communities while allowing local food businesses to grow.
  • CONNECT Alaskans like you through conferences, workshops, and special events like our Town Hall series.
  • INFORM Alaskans  through original and gathered food-related research about Alaska and Circumpolar food systems.

Please help us in reaching our goal of 150 Alaskans donating at least $5,000 dollars to AFPC by December 31, 2019.

Working together, we can make a positive difference across Alaska's food systems.
